Awana

We are very happy to have your children at our Awana Clubs this year. Our hope is that our program will offer a balance of good, positive and spiritual qualities. Such things as Bible, prayer, positive values and morals are all part of the Awana program. Please encourage your children to wear their uniform once they have earned the honor as a Clubber. Your input with the lesson is greatly appreciated so that your child will be prepared the next week to score points for his/her team. We suggest that our Cubbies bring a quarter for club dues, all other clubs bring fifty cents. The cost of the uniform and book is listed on the applicable club page. Children are asked to wear sneakers on the gym floor. Please encourage your children to follow the rules and regulations of Dover First Baptist Church.2014 Awana Signup

Club Segments:

All Club meetings are divided into four segments: Opening Ceremony, Handbook Time, Council Time and Game Time.

Opening Ceremony – We begin our night with a flag ceremony promptly at 6:30 P.M. Four of our clubbers get to participate by being flag bearers (2 Sparks and 2 T&Ts). We say the pledge of allegiance to the American Flag and the Awana pledge to the Awana flag. This sets a tone of respect for God and Country. We then sing the Awana Theme Song, make announcements and then close in prayer before we separate into our separate clubs.

Handbook Time – Memory work and discussion on Bible reading assignments and comprehension. When the leader is satisfied that the clubber has covered the handbook material adequately he will sign the handbook for awards.

Council Time – Includes singing and instruction from the Bible, covering a variety of topics relevant to growing up in and coping with the pressures of today’s society as a Christian.

Game Time – Offers clubbers the opportunity to participate as team members in physical activities which can help develop team spirit, good sportsmanship, and game skills and sell-confidence. Games are competitive in nature and winning is desirable but leaders are encouraged to give top priority to building personnel self-esteem.

Awana Fees:

Dues – Weekly dues are collected from all clubbers to help with Operating expenses, incentives and awards. Dues may be paid on a weekly basis or in one payment per year. (see Commander)

Handbooks – The first Entrance Test booklet is free. However all thereafter if lost or miss-place must be paid for. Upon completion of the Entrance Test booklet a one-year handbook is required to continue in the program.

Uniforms – Upon completion of the entrance test, a clubber is eligible to wear the AWANA uniform. We encourage each clubber to purchase and wear the uniform. The AWANA program requires that a clubber must have the uniform in order to receive the awards earned.

Guidelines:

Program Time – Awana starts promptly at 6:30 pm and ends at 8:30 pm. Doors open at 6:20 pm. Please be on time for the start of the program and for pick up time. Please use the Church Hall door only.

Sign In / Sign Out – Parents must be present to sign in and sign out their child/ren. We cannot sign in or sign out your child without your presence due to safety issues. Please sign in and sign out with the Door Monitor.

Be Prepared – All clubbers must be prepared each night. All clubbers must be in uniform, must have their Bibles, must have their Awana handbook, and must have their dues. Please be prepared each night with sections in your Awana handbooks.

Dues – Each club requires a weekly due. You can pay this in advance for the year, season, month or week. Dues are $0.50 per week.

Snacks – Awana will supply a small “snack” to each clubber. There will be a pre-set snack for the night. There will be no substitutions. All snacks will be nut-free due to possible allergies. If you would like to supply a snack for a special occasion, please let the Secretary know well in advance so it can be scheduled.

Awana Shares – All clubbers can earn shares a number of ways. Shares are earned by completing sections in the Awana handbooks, coming prepared for Awana, competitions, etc. An Awana share is “money” that can be spent at special Awana occasions, such as our Auction Night, Christmas Party & End of Year Burger Bash. Shares will be earned and tallied throughout the Awana session, but will not be given to a clubber until they can be ‘spent’.

Awana Chips – Clubbers can earn ‘chips’ for different activities in Awana. Chips can be turned in for share tallies on the night they are earned. If they are not turned in on the night they are earned, they are forfeit.

Volunteers – Awana consists of the Commander, Club Directors, Leaders, and Junior Leaders. The Commander is the Pastor of the Dover First Baptist Church. The Directors, Leaders and Junior Leaders are all members of the church.

Helpers – We ask that if you have a special talent or career that you can share with our children, please let us know. We also could use ‘helpers’ on special nights throughout the year. Please let us know if you can be contacted to help.

Secretary – The Awana Secretary will be handling all registrations, dues, material orders including uniforms and handbooks, attendance, all Awana forms, program questions, etc. We ask that parents only deal with the Awana Secretary on Awana nights. We need our leaders to be fully involved with your children without interruption.

Friends – We are limiting the amount of children attending the Awana Program, determined by the amount of leaders that we have per club. This means that you must be registered with the program to attend. No outside children will be able to attend, except on pre-set Friend Nights.

Attendance – Attendance is important to the Awana Program. If your child misses two days in a session, you will be contacted. If your child misses two more days, they will be asked to leave the program to open a spot for a child on our waiting list.

Cubbies Overview:

The Awana club for preschoolers is built on two premises:

  • Young children can and should receive spiritual training.
  • Home is the primary place for spiritual training.

Our preschool program meets these needs through … Fun – and lots of it!

Cubbies is fun with a purpose – to reach and train kids for Jesus Christ. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform our preschool program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand.

Cubbies Curriculum:

The Cubbies curriculum features two handbooks written in a fun, storybook style that appeals to preschoolers. The handbooks contain 24 Bear Hug sections along with six optional special-day sections. Each section combines basic Scripture memory with parent-child activities to help a child grasp a simple biblical truth. Two extra-credit handbooks containing additional memory verses and character-building activities are also available.

Before starting a handbook, newcomers to Cubbies are taken through an introductory brochure that gives parents and children a brief overview of the program and presents God’s plan of salvation at a preschooler’s level.

In addition, all memory verses are presented at a level appropriate for 3- and 4-year-olds. For example, John 3:16 reads: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son

We are Awana Cubbies, we’re happy all day long.
We know that Jesus loves us! That’s why we sing this song.
We hop because we’re happy and we jump and shout for joy.
For Jesus is a friend to us.
He loves each girl and boy.

Sparks Overview:

Awana® Clubs™ for children in kindergarten through second grade builds on the material taught in our preschool clubs. The curriculum takes kids a step deeper into God’s Word while giving unsaved boys and girls regular opportunities to hear the gospel and come to faith in Jesus Christ. After being immersed in solid foundational teaching at the preschool level, boys and girls frequently come to an understanding of their need to trust Christ as their personal Savior while in Sparks®.

Immersing Kids in God’s Word
The Sparks program is firmly grounded in Scripture. The three handbooks feature:

  • Basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible
  • A clear and consistent presentation of the gospel message
  • An increased emphasis on Scripture memory over our preschool materials. In three years, a child will learn and review over 65 verses, many of which cover salvation and key Christian doctrine, establishing a foundation of biblical wisdom.

Fun Learning = Results
Sparks club meetings combine learning with fun to create an atmosphere of irresistible excitement for churched and unchurched kids alike. Club meetings are divided into three segments:

  • Bible teaching, worship, award presentations and the gospel message
  • Small group interaction and completion of Bible-based lessons
  • Age-appropriate games on the Awana game circle

Along the way, Sparky, the friendly firefly, and his three friends have many exciting adventures. Sparky encourages kids to learn verses and complete assignments throughout the three handbooks.

Sparks Curriculum:

Sparks® curriculum is comprised of three handbooks. Each handbook builds a foundation of biblical wisdom through memory verse drills, activities and review of key doctrine and Bible facts..

The first handbook, HangGlider®, which arrived in 2008, begins a sequential journey through the Bible, starting with Genesis and ending with Joshua. WingRunner® Handbook, released in 2009, takes Sparkies on the next leg of the trip from Judges to the birth of Christ. In 2010, SkyStormer™ Handbook will bring the curriculum in for a landing, exploring Gods Word from the ministry of Christ to Revelation.

Before working in a handbook, all newcomers to Sparks will complete an entrance booklet – Flight 3:16 – that centers on the gospel message of John 3:16.

T&T Overview:

The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third- through seventh-grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Our goal is that many of today’s young people will become tomorrow’s church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow — today.

Exciting features to get kids excited about God’s Word
T&T is equipped with a variety of dynamic tools to accomplish this mission:

  • Four handbooks of increasing difficulty which teach children that life’s ultimate adventure is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • A cast of fun characters that boys and girls learn from and follow on interesting journeys in the handbooks
  • Weekly meetings that expose children to the gospel message, Scripture memory, Bible study, awards, team-oriented games and gut-busting fun
  • A Bible-centered curriculum that helps kids build a firm foundation for their faith, hide God’s Word in their heart and apply the truths of Scripture to their daily lives
  • Interactive CDs that use exciting high-tech games to teach and reinforce key biblical truths

Evangelism and discipleshipEvangelism and discipleship go hand in hand in our third- through sixth-grade program. By the time a child has completed T&T, he will have:

  • Learned and reviewed approximately 310 verses
  • Studied dozens of passages from the Old and New Testament
  • Regularly heard and read the gospel message
  • Discovered the Bible’s response to questions like “How does God want me to live my life?” and memorized verses to back up these answers
  • Completed missions projects that help him see the world through God’s eyes.

T&T Curriculum:

Each of the four handbooks in our Truth & Training clubs investigates four questions. Eight answers from the Bible are provided for each question. Children will learn all eight answers to each of the questions and verses to back up these answers. The handbooks also include Bible studies and activities that allow children to delve into the subject matter.

Besides this curriculum, children can complete more challenging extra-credit sections throughout each handbook to earn special awards. Before beginning work in a handbook, newcomers to T&T must complete a short booklet that explains God’s plan of salvation.

T&T Theme Song: The Ultimate Adventure

I am off on the Ultimate Adventure!
Trusting Jesus all along the way.
To the truth of God’s Word I will surrender,
No matter where I am from day to day.

Chorus:
In the sky, undersea, in the wild, Christ with me.
Here at home, around the world,
His love is clear to see.
Won’t you come along with me on the Ultimate Adventure!

I will train for the mission He has for me.
I will trust in Him to give the victory.
As I read His Word and pray, He gives direction,
As I follow Him each and every day.

Awana Clubs International

Leading Kids Worldwide to Know, Love and Serve Christ

Awana helps churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ. Our programs offer a proven approach for evangelizing and discipling kids in the church and community.

As a ministry leader for 60 years, Awana is making an impact. A recent national survey found Awana to be as important to our alumni’s spiritual foundation as all other church activities combined. Among alumni who participated in our programs for at least six years, 92.7 percent still attend church at least weekly as adults!

Each week, more than one million kids ages 2 to 18 participate in Awana. Over 12,000 churches in the U.S. and more than 8,000 internationally run Awana programs that change young lives through biblical truth.
