What We Believe

1. THE BIBLE – We believe that the Bible is God’s written revelation to man, and thus the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, constitute the Word of God. That is, we teach the plenary verbal inspiration of Scripture, that every word is equally breathed out by God in all its parts. We believe that the Word of God is an objective, propositional revelation, infallible, and absolutely inerrant in the original documents, being free from all falsehood, fraud, or deceit. We believe that the Bible has been preserved throughout the ages. We believe that the Bible constitutes the only infallible rule of faith and practice and is true and reliable in all the matters it addresses. (II Timothy 3:15-16; II Peter 1:21; Hebrews 1:1-2; Acts 1:16, 28:25; Psalm 119:9; Romans 15:4; Isaiah 8:20; Luke 24:27,44; Proverbs 30:5-6; Psalms 12:6-7)

2. GOD – We believe in one God, eternally existing in three co-equal and co-eternal Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Spirit eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son. Though distinct in personhood, these three are one in essence, power, and glory. (Luke 3:21-23; Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:26; Isaiah 6:3,8; Proverbs 30:4; Matthew 28:19, 17:5; I John 5:7; I Peter 1:2; II Corinthians 13:14; 2 Cor. 13:14; Exod. 3:14; John 14:11; I Cor. 8:6; John 1:14,18; John 15:26; Gal. 4:6)

3. JESUS CHRIST – We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second Person in the Trinity. The Lord Jesus, being very and eternal God, of one substance, and equal with the Father, did, when the fulness of time was come, take upon him man’s nature, with all the essential properties and common infirmities thereof, yet without sin: being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost in the womb of the Virgin Mary, of her substance. So that two whole, perfect, and distinct natures, the Godhead and the manhood, were inseparably joined together in one person, without conversion, composition, or confusion. He was fully God and fully man 100%. Which person is very God and very man, yet one Christ, the only mediator between God and man. (John 1:14; Gal. 4;4; Rom. 8:3; Heb. 2:14, 16, 17, 4:15; Matt. 1:22, 23; Luke 1:27, 31, 35; Rom. 9:5; 1 Tim. 2:5)

4. THE WORK OF CHRIST – We believe that the Lord Jesus honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and in His vicarious, substitutionary death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of men from sin. We believe that Christ has, by His suffering and death, made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, fully God, fully man, in whose Person is effected the reconciliation between God and man. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. (Matt. 5:17, Phil. 2:8-11, Isa. 53:5, 1 Pet. 2:24, Rom. 3:25, Luke 24:36-43, 1 Cor. 15:4-8, Heb. 1:3, Eph 1:20-21, Acts 1:9, 1 Tim. 2:5, Col. 1:19-22, Acts 17:31)

5. SALVATION – We believe that all people are sinners in need of God’s mercy and cannot earn salvation through their own works. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again. When we repent (turn away from our sins and toward God) and place our faith in Jesus Christ, we are regenerated by the Holy Spirit, forgiven, reconciled to God, and given the gift of eternal life, empowered to live in obedience and gratitude. The Holy Spirit indwells each believer enabling us to become more and more like Christ in our attitudes and actions. This process of sanctification will not be complete until we reach heaven to spend eternity with God. (Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:1–3, Ephesians 2:8–9, Titus 3:5, 1 Corinthians 15:3–4, Romans 5:8, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:18–19)

6. THE HOLY SPIRIT – We believe that The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. He draws us to faith by convincing us of our sin and by persuading us to believe in Jesus. The Holy Spirit indwells the believer at the time of conversion and grants spiritual gifts to the believer for the benefit of God’s people. (John 16:7-11, John 14:16-17, Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, Acts 1:8, Titus 3:5-6)

6. THE CHURCH – We believe that the Church, the body of Christ, began with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. All who genuinely trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are members of the invisible Church, united spiritually with Christ and with one another, regardless of time or place. We have a congregational form of church government with the deacons and trustees representing the leadership alongside the Pastor. (I Corinthians 12:13; Acts 2:1-4,38,41,47, 3:1-3, 9:1-5; Colossians 1:18; Romans 2:15, 8:27; Matthew 16:17-18; cf. I Peter 2:1-6; Acts 4:11; Romans 8:9-10)

7. BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER – We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are sacred ordinances commanded by Christ. Baptism publicly identifies a believer with Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the Lord’s Supper commemorates His sacrifice and invites us to remember, rejoice, and renew our faith in Him. Both are expressions of obedience, faith, and community within the body of Christ. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:47-48; Acts 1:8; Romans 6:3-5; Matthew 26:26-29)

8. THE RETURN OF CHRIST AND FINAL JUDGMENT – We believe that Christ may at any moment return in the air to rapture the saints (His Church) and that a Tribulation period of seven years will follow; after which He will come to the earth with the saints and rule for a thousand years. There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to the everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. (John 14:3; Acts 1:7-11; I Thessalonians 4:14-18; I Corinthians 15:23-25,51,54: Daniel 9:27; Matthew 24:15-21; Revelation 19:20, 20:15; cf. Zechariah 14:3; Matthew 25:13; Isaiah 2:1-4; Luke 1:32,35)

10. THE RESURRECTION AND ETERNAL STATE – We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust in the eternal conscious punishment of the lost and the eternal joy and blessedness of the saved.
(John 5:26,29; Luke 24:39; Philippians 3:4; Job 19:25-27; Matthew 25:46; Revelation 21:1-8)

11. MARRIAGE AND GENDER – We believe that God has designed marriage to be a covenantal, sexual, procreative, lifelong union of one man and one woman, as husband and wife, and is meant to signify the covenant love between Christ and his bride the church. We believe that God’s revealed will for all people is chastity outside of marriage and fidelity within marriage. We believe that God created Adam and Eve, the first human beings, in his own image, equal before God as persons, and distinct as male and female. We believe that adopting a homosexual or transgender self-conception is inconsistent with God’s holy purposes in creation and redemption. (Gen. 1:27, Gen. 2:24, Matt. 19:4-6, Rom. 1:26-27, 1 Cor. 6:9, Gen. 2:18, 20-23, Eph. 5:22-27)

In addition to these statements, we also affirm the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Athanasian Creed and the Nashville Statement.
