Job is Perplex with God’s Power
Introduction:
One day a group of scientists got together and decided that man had come along way and no longer needed God. So they picked one of their top notch scientists to go and tell Him that they were done with Him. The scientist walked up to God and said “God, we’ve decided that we no longer need you. We’re to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so we’re good.
God listened very patiently and kindly to the man. After the scientist was done talking, God said, “Very well, how about this? Let’s say we have a man-making contest. The scientist replied, “Okay, great! God added, “Now, we’re going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam. The scientists said, “Sure, that’s no problem so they bent down and grabbed a handful of dirt. God looked down at them and said, “No, no, no you go and get your own dirt. Only God can make something from nothing, he is all powerful and worthy of our worship.
I. God is Omniscient vv. 1- 4 / om•ni•scient
1. Job is much more gracious speaking with Bildad than the harsh words he had for Job in the previous chapter. Job began by agreeing with Bildad’s general premise: that God rewards the righteous and corrects (or judges) sinners. Job’s response to Bildad was wisely stated. Job obviously suffered more than usual; yet no one could rightly accuse him of sinning more than normal. Job wants to argue his case before God and have the opportunity to prove he does not deserve what has happened to him.
If Job was not righteous before God, then how could any man be? There is none righteous no not one. That is man dilemma and he is totally depraved apart from a merciful God.
2. It is important for us to understand that the Bible speaks of human righteousness in two ways. A man can be righteous in a comparative sense, where one can properly be considered as righteous among other men as both Noah (Genesis 7:1) and Job (Job 1:1) were considered. Job’s question is the most important question in the world. How can a man find God’s approval?
A man can also be righteous in a spiritual or legal sense, in that God through faith (Romans 5:19) has imputed Christ righteousness to those who have faith in Him — gospel.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. James 2:23 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 5:21
3. Job understood that man could not debate with God or demand answers from him. Sadly, this will become the basic of Job’s sin that he repents of in chapter 42. He comes to the realization that if any man took God to court…he could answer not one of a thousand questions. No one is wiser than God or smarter than he; who could challenge Him and win?
II God is Omnipotent vv. 5-10. /om•nip•o•tent
1. Job acknowledges the great and awesome power of God. Mountains are a challenge for men to climb but Almighty God can move a mountain and it is but a light thing for him to do so. God can shake the earth and move it from its original place of orbit. Thank God he does not. But we need to understand nothing is too hard for God. Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: – Jeremiah 32:17
2. Job praised the great creative power of God, who created the worlds and put the sun and stars in the sky. Job mentions the heavens and what God can do within them and the glory of what he has created. He names the constellations as they were named in his day.
Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades / Ple•ia•des we call Arcturus/ Arc•tu•rus the bear a constellation we see in the heavens. God created all the stars and the southern constellations meanings the one you cannot see. He is an Awesome God. Psalms 19:1

One of our most brilliant scientists, Dyson Freeman, wrote that nature’s laws are marked by “the greatest mathematical simplicity and beauty.”
He made this intriguing statement, “If there is no Designer—no Creator God—how is it that our universe can be a law-abiding system marked by beauty and simplicity? Why isn’t our universe in chaos?
The only reasonable explanation to this is God. As it says in Romans 1:20, ” For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:.
Nature to God’s children is sacred but we are not to worship nature. If we are children of God, we have a tremendous treasure in Nature. It speaks of the glory of God. In every wind that blows, in every night and day that passes, in every sign of the sky, in every blossom, flower tree and animal upon the earth, there is a real revelation of God to all if we will simply examine God’s creativity to realize this.
3. Job realizes that God can do great things too marvelous for men to understand and His miracles are countless in relationship to what a man can do. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. — Psalms 145:3
Yet in all of this refection the might of God was no comfort to Job; it just made him feel that God was more distant than ever. He was more perplexed than ever. Isaiah spoke of this in his book. — Isaiah 55:8-9
III God is Omnipresent vv.11-13.
1. God is a spirit you cannot touch him or see him yet he is never absent from you. He is and everywhere for he is omnipresence and invisible to the human eye.
2. You cannot stop God from calling home a soul Job says in verse 12 and although we say why God? Who dare ask, ‘What are you doing?
It’s as if job is saying you can’t tie Him down and it was as if Job cried out, “Why is God so hard to figure out?” His friends did not think that God was hard to figure out; the problem was simple to them. Job had sinned in some bad an unusual way, therefore all this disaster came upon him. Yet Job, knowing not all the truth (as revealed in Job 1-2), but at least knowing his own heart and integrity, knew that God was not so simple to figure out.
3. Last in verse 13 you sense Job’s frustration that there is no appeasing God when He is angry; so Job concluded this was his predicament. He make an illustration of this in the reference to God does not restrain his anger; even the cohorts of the prideful trembled at his feet.
Dr. Mason demonstrates, there are many thoughts in this passage that connect with Jesus.
• We read that God treads on the waves of the sea; Jesus walks on the water.
• We read that God does great things past finding out, miracles without number and Jesus did uncountable miracles and great things.
• We read that God moves past, and I do not perceive Him, and Jesus could pass through an angry crowd as if He were invisible (John 8:59).
• We read that no one can say to God, “What are You doing?” and in the life of Jesus it would come to pass that no one dared ask Him any more questions (Mark 12:34).
• We read that God will not withdraw His anger, so we are not surprised that sometimes Jesus showed anger.
“What wonderful irony there is in seeing Job set out to describe the immortal and invisible God, and in the process paint a stunningly accurate portrayal of the earthly Jesus?” (Mason)
Conclusion:
Folks, our primary purpose are to embrace our supreme God by faith and to worship Him in purity and service. It’s not about Him making me feel good. It’s about this: I embrace the transcendent God of the universe and pledge to worship and serve Him, no matter what!
