Introduction:
In the land of India every cow eats enough food to feed seven people, and there are 200 million “sacred cows” in India. You see India really does not have a hunger problem because of a lack of food they have an ignorance problem because of a lie. The Hindu religion teaches reincarnation in the form of animals. And so it is against religious laws to kill cows and other animals, this lie that has produced starvation, sickness, poverty and death. If the people in India would just stop feeding these cows, they could feed 1.4 billion people, over 1/4 the world population. What a horrendous lie. The new age movement repackages this old lie by teaching reincarnation, which says that you just keep coming back until you get it right. How you come back is determined by your “karma,” which is the totality of your actions. If your karma is bad, you might come back as a rat, but if it is good, you might come back a millionaire. However, this passage in Hebrews contradicts the false teaching of reincarnation.

I His death emphasizes the seriousness of sin (9:17-22).

1. The first covenant could not be put into effect without blood. Christ’s death was retroactive is: vv17). These verses refer to a last will and testament, which only takes effect at the death of the person who made it. The new covenant was inherited by all of God’s people, but it was not put into ef¬fect until Christ died on the cross.

The blood put the covenant into effect. It’s hard for us to imagine how bloody and messy this was. But sin is messy. Jesus made a declaration when He took the cup at the Last Supper (Luke 22:20) This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. God required death to be satisfied. But “the blood of bulls and goats shall not take away” Sin.” So they didn’t do it. They were simply symbolic acts, whereby a man’s faith was made visible. Forgiveness under the old economy came on credit, because there was no sacrifice that truly satisfied God. But God forgave them on the basis of their faith

2. Christ shed His blood to inaugurate the new covenant, just as the old cove¬nant was put into effect with blood. The reason is that without shedding of blood there is no remission of sins (9:22b). This reminds us of the serious¬ness of sin. Most of us try to minimize the seriousness of our own sins.

3. In our culture we try to “water-down” sin. We have new names for sins to make them more acceptable and respectable. (We use the terms “gay” or “alternate lifestyle,” but God calls this vile affections … against nature … that which is unseemly (Rom. 1:26-27). We call sin a “weakness,” but God calls it filthiness (Jas. 1:2 1). We use the word “affair,” but what does God say it is adultery. We legitimize, glamorize, and rationalize our sin. No matter how trivial or frivolous our sin may appear, it cannot be casually shrugged off. All sin is serious because the price of forgiveness is very costly-the blood of Jesus (1 Jn 1:7b).

The Old Testament priesthood was imperfect. They were willing, but they were not able. They desired to really mediate for the people in the fullest sense and bring them to God, but they could not. So Jesus comes along, and in the heart of the Book of Hebrews He brings, according to the writer, a better priesthood, a better sacrifice and a better covenant. Now, that’s what we’ve been studying. Review:

II. His death eradicates the penalty of sin (9:23-28).

1. Because blood puts a covenant into effect, ..it was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with the blood of animals. However, the real things-heavenly things themselves-were cleansed with better sacrifices than the blood of animals (9:23).
Christ did not enter into holy places [the Holy Place and Holy of Holies] made with human hands, which were only figure / copies of the true ones in heaven.

Note verse 24 the word for figure in the Greek is “antitypos (an tis a pos) it comes from the root word tupos which literally means: the mark of a stroke or blow, print. Show Illustration:

“A person or thing in the Old Testament dispensation that represents and prefigures a person or thing in the New Testament dispensation (hence called the antitype). A thing formed after some pattern. “Types are pictures, object lessons, by which God taught His people concerning His grace and saving power. The Mosaic system was training wheels in which God’s people were trained in Divine things,¬ by which also they were led to look for `better things to come.

2. Christ entered the real throne room into the presence of God for us (9:24). Right now, Jesus is on our side at God’s right side. Jesus did not enter the true Holy of Holies to offer himself often, like the earthly high priest, with blood of others (9:25). If He had, He would have suffered, or died, again and again ever since the world began (9:26a). The sacrifice of Jesus doesn’t have to be constantly repeated because it takes care of past, present, and future sins. Instead, now once in the end of the world Jesus appeared to take away our sin by the sacrifice of himself (9:26b-c).

3. Under the old covenant, the annual sacrifice on the Day of Atonement just covered the Israelites’ sins for one year. When you look at the Old Testament don’t be confused and think that the sacrifices took away sin. They did not take away sin. They were merely acts of obedience that showed that faith was legitimate. However, Jesus came to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. That means Jesus’ death doesn’t just cover sin; it obliterates sin.

Our sin is completely forgiven and permanently forgotten. Now, we are reconciled to God through the death of Christ. Colossians 1:22 declare…In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: Because the blood of Jesus obliterates every trace of our sin, in Him we are absolutely blameless.

Now, if the old economy needed blood, so does the new one. If the old economy needed sacrifices, so does the new one. But if it’s a new one, it’ll have a better sacrifice. It’s better because, number one, Jesus, when He finished it, entered into God’s presence. It’s better because He never had to repeat it. If it needed to be repeated, it would’ve had to have been repeated since Adam. But it doesn’t need to be repeated.

4. The next verse in Hebrews blows away the false teaching of reincarnation. We don’t come back in any form after we die, regardless of our “karma.” We are all destined once to die, but after this the judgment (9:27). Man has only one appointment with physical death.

Both Hinduism and Buddhism teach various tenants of reincarnation. Siddharta Gautama the
Buddha worked out a system by which man could rid himself of death and rebirth or tanha. This system he called the “Eightfold Path.

Buddha claimed that whoever could follow this Eightfold Path would eventually reach nirvana, a release from the endless cycle of death and rebirth. When Buddha was asked to define the state of nirvana, he always said that he had never tried to solve this question. Hinduism says that life in this world is meaningless. Buddhism says that life in this world is quite real. It involves real suffering, but because of this suffering, the world must be escaped.

Thank God that Jesus suffer and died for us and … II Cor. 5:18 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Each person has an appointment with death that is set by God and cannot be broken or delayed. Job 14:5, 14 make this crystal clear… Seeing his days [are] determined, the number of his months [are] with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; —If a man die, shall he live [again]? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

We don’t keep coming back until we get it right. We each keep our ap¬pointment with death and then face the judgment of God. Therefore, Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many (9:28a). He died so we could be ready to face God at the judgment.

5. Unto them that look for him, Jesus will appear the second time without sin unto salvation (9:28b). We’re going to die and get judged. But He made three appearances to take care of it. Appearing number one is in verse 26. Look at it. “But now once in the end of the ages hath He appeared to put away sin.” That’s the first appearing on the cross. The second appearing’s in verse 24, at the end of the verse. “Now to appear in the presence of God for us.” He’s interceding for us. The third appearing’s in verse 28. “One of these days, unto them that look for him, shall He appear.” Three of Christ appearances give us the account of His work on the cross, ministering for us now and in His return. And so He’s a perfect sacrifice.

Conclusion:
We must put ourselves under the blood of Jesus Christ and say, “God, I stand a sinner. I place myself under the blood of Jesus Christ because forgiveness demanded your bloodshed.
